Arthur Donald Bradbury

Arthur Donald Art Bradbury, 96, passed away on Friday, November 5, 2010 in Davidson, NC. Born December 30, 1913 in Mt. Vernon, NY, he was one of four children of Clifford Clarence and Dorothy Fairbanks Bradbury. His brothers, Robert L. and Wilburn F. Bradbury, and sister, Dorothy Ann Porterfield, preceded him in death. In 1920 the family moved to Glencoe, Illinois, where Art attended grammar school, New Trier High School and Elgin Academy. He graduated from Purdue University in 1935 where he was a member of Gimlet, the activities honorary society, and Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity.

In 1940 Art married Glencoe native Gertrude (Trudy) Schnur at the Glencoe Union Church. They lived in Glencoe, Venice, Florida and moved to North Carolina in 1989.

Art joined the United States Navy in 1942 and served during World War II as an officer aboard the PC 1260 in the Atlantic, and later as its Captain in the Pacific.

After his naval career, Art joined Marshall Field & Co. in Chicago where he held numerous management positions and retired as an officer of the company after 35 years. During those years, Arthur served as a member of the Village Board of Glencoe, President of the Family Service of Glencoe and Senior Advisor to Chicago achievement groups.

Upon retirement from business Art volunteered for the International Executive Service Corps and served as business advisor in Brazil, Tanzania and Taiwan.

Art is survived by his wife, Trudy; son Donald Taylor Bradbury and wife, Betty; son Richard Fairbanks Bradbury and wife, Kathy. Grandchildren Angela Bradbury Schweickert and husband, Bill; Scott Taylor Bradbury and wife, Mary; Allison Bradbury Augsburger and husband, Josh; and Jen Bradbury Zaptin and husband Ed. Great-grandchildren Katie, Ben and Matt Schweickert, Sarah and Courtney Bradbury, Andrew and Nolan Augsburger and Anna, Missy and Eddie Zaptin.
