Billie Sue McCaskill Ray

January 27, 1932 — February 15, 2022

Billie Sue McCaskill Ray passed from this earth, February 15, 2022, having just celebrated her 90th birthday with the family she loved. Mrs. Ray was born January 27, 1932 in Thomasville, NC to the late Charlie E. and Nemer G. McCaskill. She is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, George F. Ray of Mooresville, and siblings Louise Nichols, Wannie Porter, Charles McCaskill, Jewel Gray McCaskill, and Verlin Riordan.

Mrs. Ray is survived by her children Charlene Hastings (Randell), Robin Avent (Randy), Jerry Ray (Debbie) and Jill Davis (Kenny), and four grandchildren Callie Ray Cullen (Michael), Kendall R. Davis (Katie), Jackson T. Ray (Luzi), and Richard T. Rinehardt.

Mrs. Ray was a homemaker until her children were in school, then beginning a career in education. She served as a dedicated classroom assistant for Mooresville Graded School District for 14 years. After leaving public education, Mrs. Ray opened The Children's Playhouse, an early learning center for preschool age children. Even in her retirement, Mrs. Ray continued to care for children in her home.

A faithful member of the early Cornelius Tabernacle, which grew into Grace Covenant Church, and Mooresville Foursquare Church, Mrs. Ray, served as a leader in children's education; teaching Sunday school and Children's Church, directing VBS activities, and leading women's Bible study groups.

A private celebration will be held, with Pastor Farrell Lemings of Grace Covenant conducting the service. Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home & Life Tribute Center of Huntersville is assisting the family of Mrs. Ray.

The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House, 1325 Mecklenburg Highway, Mooresville, NC 28115 in her memory.
