Burton Scott Saunders

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Scott Saunders, 64, former long-time Army Public Affairs Officer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other Army commands. Scott passed away unexpectedly at his home in Charlotte, NC on December 14, 2010. Scott retired from the Headquarters, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Public Affairs Office in March 2006 after serving 16 years as the public affairs lead for the Directorate of Military Programs and Emergency Management. Scott returned to USACE in 2008 to serve in a one-year temporary assignment with the Kansas City District Public Affairs Office, which he left in September 2009. Prior to joining, USACE, Scott held public affairs positions with Headquarters, U.S. Information Systems Command in Arizona and Fort Knox, Kentucky. While employed with the U.S. Army, Scott did two tours in Iraq and one in Kuwait. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 20 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Raymer Funeral Home, 16901 Old Statesville Road, Huntersville, NC. A visitation period will be held at noon. Scott is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jenny Saunders; four daughters, Nikki Saunders Alvarez and husband David, Christy Hudson and husband Marshall; Allison Broughton and husband Matthew; Carrie Saunders; five grandchildren; and one sister, Denise Coker and husband Don. The family request donations be made to Habitat for Humanity and/or Childrens charities and food banks.
