Cora Mae McGee, born Cora Mae Hughes on November 14, 1934, in Kinston, NC, passed away on May 5, 2024. She was a faithful individual known for her strong will and deep love for her family. Cora Mae had a childhood filled with joy on her family farm, creating memories that she cherished throughout her life.
Among her many hobbies and interests, Cora Mae had a passion for poetry, spending quality time with her friends, and cooking delicious meals. She was renowned for her culinary skills, with dishes like chocolate pie, chicken pastry, and pound cake being some of her specialties.
Cora Mae's proudest accomplishments included being an award-winning poet and receiving both gold and bronze stars for poetry in the Gaston County Senior Games. She also held the honorary position of group lead among her friends, often organizing trips to various destinations that brought them all closer together.
Family was at the center of Cora Mae's world. She was a loving wife to Linwood James McGee. Cora Mae was preceded in death by her father Floyd Mark Hughes, mother Faye Cox Hughes, former husband Alva Stewart Mallard, Sr. and grandson Ben Mallard.
She is survived by her sons Alva Stewart Jr. (Dianne) Mallard, and Benjamin Mark (Sharon) Mallard; grandchildren, Rebecca (Barry) Bleigh, Lauren (Shannon) Hall, Kristy Lassiter, Joshua Mallard, Daniel (Kartley) Mallard, Clairen Jackson, Grant (Maya) Mallard; sister Ramona Creagh; numerous great grandchildren along with extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Visitation will be on Thursday May 9th from 4-5:30pm at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home 16901 Old Statesville RD Huntersville NC 28078
A Graveside Service to honor and remember Cora Mae McGee will be held on May 10th at Pollocksville Cemetery in Pollocksville, NC, 28573. The service will begin at 2:00 PM to commemorate the life of a remarkable woman who touched the hearts of all who knew her.
Cora Mae will be fondly remembered for her warm spirit, unwavering faithfulness, and dedication to those she loved. May she rest in peace knowing she left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
