Corinne Wallace Kerns

Corinne Wallace Kerns, 100, of Charlotte, North Carolina passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2019. She was known as “Tootsie”  most of her life because of an argument over a Tootsie Roll with one of her sisters as a very young girl.

She was born December 9, 1918 to the late Walter William Wallace and Sara Emma Dulin. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew V. Kerns, Sr.; son, Andrew V. Kerns, Jr.; son, Robert M. Kerns; sisters, Allene Detry, Ruby Lineberger, Ada Wagner , Raymelle Wentz, Evelyn Swearingen, Ellie Wallace, Kay Whittinghill, and Naomi Dunn; brothers, Brice Wallace, Raymond Wallace, Algie Wallace, Carl "Buddy" Wallace, and Eugene Wallace.

Corinne is survived by her daughter, Lavonne K. Bradley of Columbia, SC;  daughter-in-law Sally Kerns, of Berwyn, PA, and Dr. David G. Kerns and wife Dr. Lisa Kerns, of Fernandina Beach, FL; seven grandchildren, Mark Bradley (Lisa), Blake Bradley (Beth), Andrea Baugh (Keith), Corinne Lowery (Bob), Erin Kerns, Dr. Alison Dobbs,ND (Dr. Forest Dobbs,ND), and Cole Kerns; and six great-grandchildren, Juliana Bradley, Philippa Bradley, Elise Bradley, Andrew Baker, Austin Baker, and Turiya Dobbs.

She graduated from Long Creek School in 1936. She was an active member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church since 1936. She sang in the Hopewell Church choir and was active in Women of the Church for over 60 years. She was very active in the PTA while her children were in school and served several years as President during the 1960s.

A brief visitation will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, September 7, 2019 in the Shaw Classroom at Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 10500 Beatties Ford Rd., Huntersville, NC 28078.  A memorial service will follow at 10:30 am, in the sanctuary of the church.  A private graveside service for family members only will follow immediately at Hopewell Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
