Dagmar McDonald

Dasha McDonald, 79, of Huntersville, North Carolina, passed away on August 29, 2026.

Dasha was born in Prague, Czech Republic, on June 10, 1947, to the late Ladislav and Ludmila Nemecek. She attended Charles University, where she majored in finance.

During the Prague Spring and the subsequent Soviet-led communist crackdown, Dasha left Czechoslovakia with only a single suitcase and came to the United States without speaking a word of English. Through courage, determination, and hard work, she built a new life in the United States. Over the years, Dasha worked as a Russian language and mathematics teacher, a real estate agent, and a banker.

Dasha was a devoted mother and wife, a true free spirit who was courageous and bold. She will be remembered with love for the unique and vibrant person she was and for the lasting impression she made on those who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Hugh McDonald; her brother, Lada; and her sister, Puvka; her daughter, Julie Parrish; her son-in-law, David Parrish; her grandchildren, Ryan, Jack, Lena, Gavin, and Connor.
