Daryl Lewis “Scud” Johnson passed away peacefully in his home in Cornelius, NC on March 19, 2026, which is fittingly, The Feast of St Joseph, patron saint of fathers. Daryl, a long time resident of Ford City, PA, was born in Brownsville, PA on September 5, 1930 to Julia (Verlock) Johnson and Michael Johnson. Daryl was a parishioner and eucharistic minister at St Lawrence in Cadogan, PA for many years, and currently belonged to St Mark in Huntersville, NC.
A graduate of Brownsville High School, Daryl was president of his junior and senior class and a standout football player. After graduation, he criss crossed the country entertaining many football scholarship opportunities. He was called to duty and served as a sergeant in the Korean War, then ended up close to home at Grove City College where he earned a BS degree in business and finance, and was president of the Epsilon Pi fraternity. Later, he went on to receive a masters degree in education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Over the years, Daryl worked at Mellon Bank, Poundstone Associates, and taught business math, bookkeeping, and coached the football team at Ford City High School. The greatest part of his career was with spent as a stockbroker and vice president at Merrill Lynch.
Daryl married the love of his life, Rosemary (Faykosh) Johnson, on October 15, 1960. They enjoyed a full and rich life together for 64 years before her passing in 2025. Daryl and Rosemary were lifetime golf members at Lenape Heights, and season ticket holders for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Penguins, Civic Light Opera, and Pitt basketball. They were dedicated volunteers at St Vincent de Paul thrift store and host to several exchange students.
One of Daryl’s most rewarding and worthy endeavors was founding, financing, and coaching the Ford City Bulls so that his sons and other kids in the community would have a high school hockey team to play for. His passion to learn the intricacies of the sport motivated him to travel to Colorado to attain his Master Coaching designation under Badger Bob Johnson.
Daryl devoted his life to his family. Left to forever honor and cherish his memory are his children, Natalie (Bob) Graziani, Michael Johnson, Gregory (Melissa) Johnson, Kurt (Darci) Johnson, Stephen Johnson, Jonathan (Shane) Johnson, Mary Caroline (Doug) Morganstern; grandchildren Vanessa (Craig) Berich, Connor (Nicole) Cole, Ian Cole, Julia Johnson, Mac Johnson, Catherine Johnson, Paulina Johnson, Isabel Johnson, Henry Johnson, Evelyn Morganstern; and great grandchildren Brooks Berich, Cooper Berich, and Grant Berich.
