David Walter Messig, 78, of Charlotte, NC passed away on August 23rd, 2025.
David “Dave” was born in Ridgefield Park, NJ on January 21st, 1947, to the late Walter Thomas Messig and Marie Dolores Irving Messig.
Dave is a graduate of Ridgefield Park HS class of 1965. He went on to graduate from Fairleigh Dickinson University and continued with a career in cost analysis/computer programming/IT and consulting. In 2004, after the death of his mother, Marie, Dave moved to the Charlotte area to be closer to Rachel and Amy and their families. Dave was an avid golfer and was fortunate enough to attend the Masters with his son-in-law, Eric, in 2015. Dave’s other interests included astronomy, tennis, stamp collecting, playing cards, traveling, reading, solving the New YorkTimes daily crossword puzzles, fishing and watching NFL football. His travels included fishing trips to northern Canada, several countries in Europe, Hawaii, Cape Cod, and the Bahamas. His most recent trips in the past year included the Redwoods, New Orleans and just this summer to the Chicago area to spend time with sister, Marcia and her family. Above all, Dave’s greatest joy was being with his family and beloved grandchildren. Dave considered himself to be a wine and food connoisseur and his favorite meals were with his family on Sundays. Dave was known for his great humor, one-liners and his quick wit.
Dave is survived by his sister, Marcia Messig Olmsted (Richard Olmsted), also originally of Ridgefield Park, NJ; daughters, Rachel Messig Graves (Shannon Smith) and Amy Messig Sabo (Eric Sabo); grandchildren, David and Grace Sabo; several nieces and nephews from the Olmsted family from the Glen Ellyn, Illinois area; cousins from the Cancino family of Nassau Bahamas; and Judith Houghton, former wife and the mother of his children.
The family invites friends to join them for a visitation to pay their respects on Saturday, September 6th from 2:00 - 3:00pm at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home of Huntersville. Family and friends will be welcomed immediately following the service at the home of Amy and Eric Sabo.
