David Joseph Souza, a beloved figure in his community, passed away on September 5, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and dedication. Born on September 10, 1941, in the vibrant Fox Point neighborhood of Providence, Rhode Island, David was the son of Arthur and Amelia Souza. He grew up in the close-knit community of Rhode Island and carried the spirit of his hometown with him throughout his life.

From a young age, David displayed a passion for sports in which he excelled in football, baseball, and basketball. His love for sports continued to thrive even after his playing days were over. As he became an adult, David channeled his passion into coaching various sports as well as his children. Through coaching, he became a mentor to countless young individuals who admired him for his guidance and unwavering support.

He worked for the State of Rhode Island as a teacher and an administrator, but it was the time he spent with family and friends that he truly cherished. Married for 58 years to the love of his life, Victoria Souza, their bond was an inspiration to all who knew them. Together they embraced life's joys and challenges with unwavering support for one another and their 3 children.

David's devotion extended beyond his immediate family and touched the lives of his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He took great pride in their accomplishments and was a constant presence at their social and athletic events. He was an incredible role model not only for his family but also for the wider community,  David had a natural ability to develop great and very deep friendships that lasted a lifetime.

As a kid at heart, David maintained a youthful exuberance that radiated through his warm and caring personality. His infectious smile could light up any room, and his ability to connect with people on a deep level earned him the love and admiration of all who had the pleasure of sharing their lives with him.  Not only was he an avid reader, he was a colorful storyteller that could capture anyone’s attention.
David embraced the Catholic faith, attending church weekly and often times daily. He instilled the importance of the Catholic faith in his three children.

David's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him. His memory will forever be cherished by his wife Victoria, his sons Scott and Steven and their respective partners Stacey and Carmen, his daughter Marissa and son-in-law Charlie Saine, as well as his grandchildren Daniel, Gabriel, Evan, Isabella, Joshua, Victoria, Matthew, and Lauren. In addition to his immediate family members, David leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who were touched by his presence throughout the years. Each one of them holds memories of David's kindness close to their hearts as they mourn this profound loss. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brother, Kenneth Souza.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, September 15, 2023 at St. Mark Catholic Church, Huntersville, where he and Victoria were members.
