Donald Wagner, 90 of Cornelius, NC passed away on January 14, 2023. He was born in New Britain, CT to the late Leander and Anne (Chanda) Wagner on March 2, 1932.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his twin, Ronald Wagner.
Donald was a graduate of Dartmouth College in 1954 and the University of PA - Philadelphia with a Master’s Degree of City Planning in 1957. He was a Fulbright Scholar from 1957-1958 in Sydney, Australia. Donald enjoyed city planning and was director of planning for several cities across the country, including Youngstown, OH, Lowell, MA, Cambridge, MA where he worked upon the location of the JFK Library and Elgin, IL. A passionate and excellent home cook, Donald opened the Little Mermaid Café in E. Dundee, IL basing the menu on his travels throughout Europe after his Fulbright Scholarship. Donald enjoyed cooking and entertaining for friends and family, was an avid gardener all his life, loved his crossword puzzles and one of his greatest joys was being a Bapa (Grandpa)!
His presence and quiet demeanor will be missed deeply by all those who loved him!
Donald is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy (Chamberlain) Wagner of the home, daughter and son-in-law, Laura Wagner-Cary and Matthew Cary of Charlotte, NC, grandchildren Amelia Cary of Chicago, IL and Iain Wagner-Cary of Charlotte, NC, sisters-in law Mary A. Weseman of Lincoln, NE and Betty L. Wagner of Seattle, WA and 1st cousin Joe and Pat Ondrick of Sarasota, FL.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00pm, Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home in Huntersville, NC. The family will receive friends for a gathering prior at 3:00pm and during a reception following the service.
Memorial Donations may be made to Second Harvest Food Back of Metrolina (Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina (secondharvestmetrolina.org) or the Arbor Day Foundation (Arbor Day Commemorative Trees in Memory).
