Edward Joseph Mongillo, 69, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away on July 10th, 2024. Ed was born in New Haven, CT on December 27th, 1954 to the late Al Mongillo and Rose Mongillo (Cavaliere).
He is survived by his daughter Lindsay Lennon (Mongillo), her husband Peter Lennon IV, and several cousins and extended family members.
Ed was the Department Head of Special Education at Wilcox Technical High School in Meriden, CT for most of his career. He was very passionate about teaching and impacted thousands of students and colleagues over his thirty years of working at the school.
Anyone who crossed paths with Ed knew he was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, Green Bay Packers, and UConn Huskies. It was a rare day to see him leave the house without wearing a hat or shirt that represented one of those teams (or sometimes multiple). He loved Jackson Browne’s music and attended 100 of his concerts in 13 different states. When living in Connecticut, he enjoyed a white clam and bacon pizza from Pepe’s, followed by a cannoli from Libby’s Italian Pastry Shop in New Haven. He and his best friend since high school, Richard Pacelle, would even make special trips there when Rich would visit Connecticut from out of town.
Ed enjoyed lounging at the beach or pool, growing flowers and vegetables in his garden, traveling to Manhattan for Yankee games, and taking walks. He loved nature and being outside, whether he was hiking or playing basketball with his friends.
Ed was an extremely strong fighter and never lost sight of his faith, even throughout his on-and-off battle with cancer. He passed peacefully with his daughter and son-in-law by his side.
