Elizabeth Torrence Alexander, 88, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025 in Richmond, VA. “Liz” was born in Davidson, North Carolina on September 25, 1936, to Conrad Graham Torrence and Rosa Lee Torrence, nee Gant. She was the youngest of 3 daughters.
Liz is survived by her four children: Mark Alexander (Marianne) of Mint Hill, NC; Holly Woods (Bob) of Glen Allen, VA; Drew Alexander (Judy) of Williamsburg, VA; and Tammy Wright (Mike) of Lake Gaston, NC. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Reed Alexander (Beth), Jared Alexander, Katelyn Norton (Bud), Abbey Colley (Pierce), Jordan Davis (Daniel), Ryan Alexander (Sarah), Alexandra Pang (Paul), Cameron Alexander, Kate Alexander, Carmen Wright, Jamie Wright, and Lily Alexander. Liz is also survived by 5 great grandchildren: Colton Alexander, Emerie Alexander, Everlee Alexander, Noah Colley, and Lucas Davis. Liz is survived by her sister Odessa Torrence Archer of Davidson as well.
Liz was preceded in death by her parents, Conrad and Rosa, her husband, William Mock Alexander (Bill) and her sister Bettie Torrence Smith.
Liz attended Greensboro College after high school. She liked numbers, accounting, bookkeeping, working primarily in those fields throughout her adult life. Liz loved to travel and did so extensively in South America and throughout Europe with her husband, Bill, while he was employed with Reynolds Aluminum. She was a competitive, enthusiastic card player and an avid bridge player, achieving her Life Master. Liz was also an accomplished seamstress and quilter and gifted her family with heirloom, one-of-a-kind quilts. Additionally, she enjoyed painting and DIY projects. She was always willing to try her hand at something new.
Liz got the most joy from watching sports of all kinds and tirelessly supported all her grandchildren in their varied extracurricular activities. Liz attended as many of their events as she could, traveling often between Virginia and North Carolina to catch a concert, show, game, meet or regatta.
The family would like to thank the staff at Manorhouse Assisted Living and Memory Care in Richmond, Virginia for the care they provided during Liz’s convalescence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to....... .
Visitation will take place between 11am and 12pm on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home in Huntersville with a graveside service immediately following at 12:30 pm at Gilead Presbyterian Church, 15303 Beatties Ford Rd, Huntersville NC.
