George Edward Dunn, III, born on January 20, 1945, in Brooklyn, NY, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2024, in Charlotte, NC. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose gentle spirit and unwavering support enriched the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.
George’s professional journey was marked by his reputation as the best boss ever for those fortunate enough to work under him. His dedication and drive inspired many; he was known for his quiet strength and success in all his endeavors. George was a man who valued loyalty and generosity, always willing to lend a helping hand or offer a kind word.
A beloved family man, George cherished the time spent with his grandchildren, often cooking pancakes for them and creating memories that would last a lifetime. He took pride in being called “Pops,” and there was nothing quite like the joy he derived from their laughter and companionship. His love for family was unparalleled, and he took on the role of the family handyman with enthusiasm. From fixing things around the home to later supervising family projects, he was willing to lend a helping hand.
In his leisure time, George found solace in golf and enjoyed being on the lake, where he embraced the calm and beauty of nature. His hobbies brought him immense joy, reflecting his appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.
George is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Loraine Dunn; his children, Virginia Velez, George (Misty) Dunn IV, Richard (Kristyn) Dunn, and Joseph (Amy) Dunn; his cherished grandchildren, Julia Dunn, Cameron Rusch, Ryan Dunn, Hannah Dunn, Robert Velez, Jessie Dunn, Michael Velez, Grace Dunn, Sean Dunn, Madison Dunn, and Siena Dunn; and his siblings, Tom (Pris) Dunn, Kathleen (Rod) Aurigemma, Kevin (Cathy) Dunn, and Karen (Ed) Zimmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Edward Dunn, Jr. and Kathleen Mulrooney Dunn.
George Edward Dunn, III will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his loving spirit, generosity, and the legacy of kindness he leaves behind.
Memorial mass will be held in his honor at St. Therese Catholic Church of Mooresville (217 Brawley School Rd.) on Saturday, September 7th at 11:00 AM. The Mass will be livestreamed on the Church's website which may be viewed by clicking St. Therese.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial contributions be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or ALS Association.
