George Walter Searle, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025, at the age of 67.
Born on March 4, 1958, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to Walter Kempton Searle and Klara Barskrind Searle, George spent his early years surrounded by the ocean—surfing and playing futbol amid the vibrant culture and warmth of his beloved hometown.
In 1976, he immigrated to the United States to attend Brevard College in North Carolina, where he formed friendships that would enrich his life for decades to come.
A longtime Charlotte banker, George was admired for his integrity, dedication, and genuine care for the people he worked with and served.
Beyond his professional life, he was deeply involved in the Lake Norman community, volunteering with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and the Peninsula Community Foundation. His compassion and generosity touched countless lives.
A life long fan of “O Jogo Bonito” or soccer, as we call it, he was blessed to play with the same group of teammates turned family for 40+ years.
George was an adoring husband to his loving wife, Connie, and a proud father to Kemp Searle of Charlotte; Erika Searle and her husband, Josh, of Portland, Oregon; and Patrick Whelan and his wife, Eimile, of Charlotte. He was also a cherished “Gobgob” to Levon (5), Joe (3), Klara (2), and Elsie (1 1/2), who filled his heart with endless joy, laughter, and pride.
Those who knew George will remember his warmth, humor, and steadfast kindness. He leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and community spirit that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A celebration of George’s life will be held on Sunday, November 2 at 4:00 p.m. at The Peninsula Country Club. In true George fashion, we’re keeping things casual — shorts, smiles, and long hugs encouraged as we celebrate a life well lived. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Peninsula Community Foundation in George’s memory. https://yourpcfgala.org/remembering-george.
