George Michael Thibodeau

September 18, 1946 — July 12, 2024

George Michael Thibodeau Jr (Mike), the son of George and Gertrude (Murphy) Thibodeau, passed on July 12, 2024.  He is survived by his wonderful wife of 42 years, the former Nancy Lucas of Atherton, CA, whose love, strength and dedication provided a model for their successful lives together.  He is survived by their children.  Son, Michael, his partner Hanna Mangold of Baltimore, Daughter Ann, her husband, Cameron and their daughter, Atty Bernadette of Beaverton, Oregon.  Additionally, he is survived by his sisters, Pat, Judy & Sally of Southern RI, each of whose lives reflect hard work, accomplishment, love, and dedication to family.  Mike grew up in N Providence, is a 1964 graduate of LaSalle Academy and a member of the first graduating class of Rhode Island Junior College - now CCRI.  He earned a BA in History & Political Science from Franklin College of Indiana.  As an active member of the national fraternity Kappa Delta Rho, he made several lifelong friends.  He was proud to be an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.  Subsequent to his military service and educational experience, he earned a MA in Educational Sociology from Wayne State University in Detroit, and an additional MA in Public Service from Bryant University in Smithfield, RI.  He then was selected as a Presidential Management Intern.  He moved from Rhode Island to Washington DC area in 1979, where he entered federal service for a career including positions at the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Office of the Army Surgeon General, and the Health Care Financing Administration.  He later consulted with a variety of private and public organizations on health care matters.  Mike was an avid fan of all New England professional sports teams, having a special love for the Red Sox.  He considered "Truck Day" each February to be the hopeful day of the year.  In 2005, he and Nancy retired to Huntersville, NC where they enjoyed various volunteer activities and new-found friends.  He and Nancy travelled extensively and often returned to RI visiting family, friends, and the culture of his home state.  He felt blessed and grateful for the love & friendship he experienced, and was rewarded with a life filled with love, purpose, and accomplishment.  He loved, was loved, and will be missed.

A gathering for friends will be hosted at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home on August 4, 2024 at 1:30 PM by the family.  This will be followed at a later date by a graveside ceremony at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery in Exeter, RI where he will receive military honors recognizing his service to our country.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to Via Health Partners in memory of Mike would be gratefully welcomed.
