Along with her parents, Geraldine is preceded in death by her Husband Johnny Martin Summers, Daughter in-law Pattie Summers, Grandson Mario Rivera, nephew Mathew Penniger, and great nephew Kaleb Copenhaver.
She is survived by her Son: Tony Summers, Daughter: Kay Summers, Granddaughter: Brittany Rivera, Sister Faye & her husband Ronny Raper, niece: Wendy Copenhaver and her son Josh & daughter Bethany. Bethany’s son Jacob, Step daughters: Tonya Davis and her husband Matt, & Shannon Blair and her husband Todd & 5 great grandchildren.
Gerry grew up in Huntersville, NC and graduated at North Mecklenburg High School. At a young age, she enjoyed helping at out her grandparents’ house (Charles & Lottie McGinnis) where she learned farming. Through those experiences she annually planted vegetables and flowers. She loved to watch them grow and produce beautiful flowers and food for the table. She married Johnny Summers on August 7, 1954 and spent 64 years as a devoted wife until his passing on February 9th, 2018. She worked at Hudson Hosiery Mill in Belmont, Hamrick’s Retail Store in Charlotte, and retired from Calvery Baptist Daycare Center in Charlotte. Throughout her career, she took time out to be a stay-at-home mom for her daughter and then her granddaughter. She loved children, which is why she decided to end her career taking care of them. She loved the ocean and made it a point to spend time at Myrtle Beach every year up to October 2025 being her last trip. She loved animals and usually had a few of them following her around the house. Once she couldn’t get around very well she took great joy in watching the birds at her birdfeeders and her guppies in her aquarium. Her unconditional love, encouragement, compassion and words of wisdom are treasures that we will forever carry in our hearts.
