James (Jim) Alexander Canipe, 88, of Elkin, NC passed away Thursday June 18, 2026 in Rock Hill, SC.
James was born on June 25, 1937, in Huntersville, NC to the late Mike George and Edna Jetton Canipe. Jim was raised by his Uncle Walter Burette Jetton.
Jim was a US Army Veteran, serving with the Military Police. He retired from the City of Charlotte, after working for 20 years as an Operator at the McDowell Creek Wastewater Plant. He had also worked for the Federal Reserve Bank in Charlotte, andas a police officer for Charlotte and Davidson, NC.
Throughout his life he worked on a farm and enjoyed tending to his farm and animals. After retirement, he owned a farm in Elkin, NC where he raised cattle and enjoyed visiting with numerous friends.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife Jane Covington Canipe and by his companion Camilla Minish Pardue.
He is survived by his son, Mike Burette Canipe (Julie); sister, Linda Canipe Mulligan; and his fur babies Chico, Molly and Eli.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday June 24, 2026,from 1:00 – 2:00 pm at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, Huntersville, NC. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel.
Jim will be laid to rest at Hopewell Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Huntersville NC following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
