Joan Gail Pypiak (née Easley), 73, passed away peacefully with Pip by her side at her home in Cornelius, NC, on September 11, 2026.
Born and raised in Broomall, PA, Joan attended Mansfield University, where she earned her degree and met the love of her life, Charles. Together, Joan and "Pip" raised their family in Frederick, MD, later retiring to Bluffton, SC, and eventually settling in Cornelius, to be closer to family and the two grandchildren she adored.
Joan was truly special—a remarkable wife, a deeply loving mother, sister, and aunt, and a wonderful, devoted friend. Sweet, kind, and thoughtful, she possessed a rare capacity to love everyone around her. She had a passion for life that shone through her love of traveling and spending time at the beach, with her feet in the sand and a good book. An avid sports fan, Joan loved cheering on her beloved Baltimore Ravens. She was equally passionate about music, especially Tom Petty—a love she shared with her family while enjoying concert trips or sitting next to a fire with a cold glass of Riesling. Joan also had a lifelong love for her cats, caring for many sweet companions over the years, and leaving behind her beloved, Zoey.
Above all else, Joan treasured her family and the moments they shared. She is survived by her loving husband of many years, Charles Martin Pypiak of Cornelius, NC; her devoted children, Brian Pypiak and his wife Meg Fanney of Raleigh, NC, Amy Pypiak of Kannapolis, NC, and Michael Pypiak and his wife Janet of Mooresville, NC; her two cherished grandsons, Charles and Cooper Pypiak of Mooresville, NC, who brought endless joy and pride to her heart; her beloved sister, Pat Ehrman, and brother-in-law, Bob Ehrman, of Palm Harbor, FL, along with their children Bobby Ehrman, Darren Ehrman, and Megan Phillips; as well as many loving in-laws, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, and extended family members who held a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Geraldine Easley, and her parents-in-law, Charles and Michelina Pypiak.
The family will hold a private celebration of Joan’s life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan’s memory to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
“You belong among the wildflowers
You belong somewhere close to me
Far away from your trouble and worry
You belong somewhere you feel free”
— Tom Petty
