John “Ken” Koppenal, Sr., 79, of Cornelius, NC passed away on August 24, 2021. Ken was born in Patterson, NJ on June 25, 1942 to the late John M. Koppenal and Roberta Koppenal.
Ken is survived by his wife of 54 years, Eileen Koppenal; his sons, John “Ken” Koppenal and wife, Dawn, Keith Koppenal and wife, Jennifer, Kevin Koppenal; his sister, Joan Schatzle and husband, Alan; sister-in-law, Susan Thibodeau and husband, Dave; grandchildren, Alexa, Kaitlyn, Mia, Teagyn, and Joseph. He is also survived by his niece, Nicole and nephews, David, Michael, Brian and Arden.
Ken “ Pop Pop” passed with his wife and three sons at his side. Family was always first and foremost for Ken. Never missing a sporting event or school event for his sons and all four of his amazing granddaughters. Ken was a brilliant problem solver, the original MacGyver, a skill that he patiently and lovingly successfully passed on to his sons.
Ken was a glazier by trade and his incredible craftsmanship will be on display for many generations on New York City’s most iconic buildings. He passed along his love for car racing, skiing, tennis and boating to his sons and grandchildren. But his biggest love of all was his happy 54 years with his wife, Eileen.
Services will be held privately by the family.
