John Alexander Wilson III

August 14, 1942 — April 2, 2023

Huntersville

John Alexander Wilson III, 80, passed unexpectedly on April 2, 2023 in Huntersville, NC from a short battle with colon and kidney cancer with his partner, Judy Denton by his side.  His loved ones are deeply saddened by his sudden passing.

John was born on August 14, 1942 in Rockport, KY.  John attended North High School in Evansville, IN before moving to California and graduating from Garden Grove High School.  John then went onto get his BS in Chemistry at Cal-State Bakersfield. He spent most of his life in California, but later in retirement he moved to Lake Norman, NC to be with his grade school crush, Judy Denton for the past 4 years.

John had an amazing and eclectic career including COO of GFI Manufacturing, owning a plumbing business and partner in a flower shop, and in retirement - working in sales and the garden department at The Home Depot.  His biggest career accomplishment was designing one of the first semi-conductors at GFI that is still being used in cell phones.

John's hobbies were as diverse as his career was.  He loved racing cars, boating, collecting watches, gardening and anything to do with flowers, playing the guitar, drawing and definitely loved his detective TV shows.

Anyone who knew John was touched by his gift of gab, humor and his generosity.  He loved to shower his friends and family with thoughtful gifts.

John is survived by his partner Judy Denton and her family, Brett and Susan Denton, Travis Denton, Matthew Holt and Hayden Denton, Dan and Marni Rhoads and their children, Ayla and Mina, his nieces Emily Hanscom and Cathy Lopez and his nephew, Andrew Hanscom, and his fur babies, Daisy, Molly and Fancy.  He was proceeded in death by his father, John Wilson II, his mother, Mary Clark Knight and his sister, Linda K. Knight.

There will be a Celebration of Life held in his honor for close friends and family.

Contributions in memory of John can be made to Angels for Animals.  www.angelsforanimals.org
