Julia Ann Pfeffer

Julia Ann “Julie” Pfeffer, 67, passed away on September 11, 2026, after a long journey with frontotemporal dementia, specifically primary progressive aphasia.

Julie was born on January 11, 1959, in Jackson, Michigan, to Roy S. Pung and Charlene Pung. She attended Michigan State University, where she earned her nursing degree and began her professional life as a nurse.

Julie was never defined by just one career or one chapter of her life. She later became an entrepreneur, helping start a retail boutique called Four Friends, and eventually became a Realtor. In each of those roles, she brought with her the warmth, confidence, and natural ability to connect with people that were such an important part of who she was.

Above all else, Julie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend.

She shared her life with her husband, Mark Pfeffer, whom she met while attending Michigan State University. Together, they raised two sons, Michael Pfeffer, who is married to Sarah (Hucker) and Jeffrey Pfeffer, who is married to Sarah Beth (Hamilton).

Julie was a tremendous mother and a deeply loving presence within her family. She was also the beloved “Gigi” to six grandchildren. Michael and Sarah are the parents of Juliana and Ethan, while Jeffrey and Sarah Beth are the parents of Olivia, Mackenzie, William, and Elizabeth Ann.

Although Julie was already living with illness by the time her grandchildren were born, she remained very much their Gigi and an important part of their lives and family.

Julie is also survived by her mother, Charlene Pung, and her siblings, Lisa Pung, Tammy Monks, and Mark Pung. She was preceded in death by her father, Roy S. Pung, and her family takes comfort in imagining her reunited with him once again.

Those who knew Julie will remember her infectious laugh, her warmth, and the way she made people feel welcome. She had an amazing personality and a presence about her that drew people in. She was often the life of the party, loved deeply, and had a way of making ordinary moments and gatherings feel more memorable simply because she was there.

Julie was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in the fall of 2015, with primary progressive aphasia affecting her ability to communicate over time. While the disease became part of the final chapter of her life, it never defined the whole of who she was.

She will be remembered for the life she built, the family she loved, the friendships she made, the people she cared for, the work she took pride in, and the unmistakable personality she carried with her throughout her life.

Her family will miss her tremendously, but they will carry her with them in their stories, their traditions, their children, and in the many ways her influence continues to live on.

Julie’s family would also like to express their sincere gratitude to Cadence Living of Mooresville, Gordon Hospice House, and Iredell County Hospice for the care, compassion, and support they provided to Julie and her family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Julie’s honor to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD) at The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration.

A celebration of Julie’s life will be held at a later date, with details to be announced.

Julie was loved deeply, made a lasting impact on those around her, and will never be forgotten.
