Larry Thomas Caldwell, devoted family member, and beloved member of his community, departed his life on earth, March 25, surrounded by his loved ones after a courageous battle. Born on June 21, 1959, in Charlotte, NC, Larry's journey through life was marked by his unwavering commitment to providing for his family.
Larry attended North Mecklenburg High School, where he graduated in 1977, and later pursued his degree at Gaston Community College. His first job was with Frieze Machine Company. He spent his 38 ½ year carrier at Freightliner- Mt Holly as a QA inspector where he proudly retired from in June 2019.
Larry's life was defined by his love for his family and friends. He was fortunate to grow up on Lake Norman where he spent endless hours water skiing, taking pride in teaching people how to ski and playing king of the pier.
Happiness, for Larry, was found in simple pleasures— enjoying his home at the beach, long days with a fishing rod in hand on the shore, time at motorcycle races with his family and friends, cutting grass, cooking, water skiing and snow skiing. These moments exemplified his joy for life and his unconditional love for those he held dear. He will always be remembered for his loud joyful manly voice which would fill a room with jokes and pranks.
Larry is survived by his devoted wife of 34 years, Lee Caldwell and their son, Thomas Caldwell. He is also remembered fondly by his extended family: Mary Lee Smith; mother-in-law, sister-in law Lysa Deaton-Smith, brother-in-law Neal Smith, and his nieces Malea and Keeley Smith.
Though Larry will be dearly missed, he is now in Heaven with the Lord, where she is reunited with his father, mother and brother; Tom, Mabel and Steve Caldwell, his father-in-law Newton Smith, his brother-in-law Alex Smith and his sister-in-law Kristi Smith. The legacy of kindness and love he leaves behind will continue to inspire all who knew him.
