Lilian Burton Slaton, born in Orlando FL March 4, 1925, died January 18, 2018 in Mooresville, NC at the age of 92.
The daughter of British immigrants Harry and Laura Lilian (Sharp) Burton, she is preceded in death by her son Richard Lee Slaton; brother Frank Burton; and sisters Dora C. Slaton, Edith E Smith, Elsie M Ford Owen.
She is survived by her devoted husband of more than 70 years, Richard Inman Slaton; daughters Alice Elaine Slaton and Elizabeth Barr; grandsons Michael Cummings (Nicole), Scott Cummings (Cory) and Robby Barr; granddaughter Kelsey Barr; great granddaughters Mae, Caris and Quinlyn Cummings; and great grandson Slaton Cummings; as well as dozens of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Lilian graduated from Palm Beach High School (1943) and remained active with fellow alumni, maintaining rich and life long friendships to the end. During WWII, she volunteered at the local USO and wrapped bandages at the Red Cross in Palm Beach County. She was proud to be a Florida native and loved the beach, the birds, and the flora.
A bookkeeper and skilled stenographer, she was one of the first volunteers for the Hospice of Palm Beach County. But, her proudest accomplishments were family and friends. She was steadfastly and proudly devoted to her husband and children.
A Service of Gratitude for the Life of Lilian Slaton will be held Friday January 26, 2018 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home in Huntersville NC (www.raymerfh.com) with visitation at 10:00 AM, service at 11:00 AM and reception at 12:00 PM.
Those planning an expression of sympathy in lieu of flowers are asked to consider Shriners Hospitals for Children (P.O. Box 1510, Ranson, WV 25438-4510).
Lilian accompanied her husband on numerous trips throughout the state of Florida to transport children to Shriners Hospital in Tampa.
