Marie Louise Alfidi Reynolds, 90, of Cornelius, NC, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2025. Marie was born in Chicago, Illinois, on April 8, 1935, to the late Luca and Angelina Panella Alfidi. Along with her parents, Marie is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Reynolds (affectionately known by his grandchildren as Grandpa Bubba), and brother, Dr. Ralph Alfidi.
Marie graduated with a degree in teaching from Eastern Illinois University in May 1956. She met and fell in love with Richard “Dick” Reynolds her senior year. They were married on November 26, 1955.
Marie taught Spanish in the Union and Iredell County school systems for many years and also taught in various school systems in Illinois.
Our beloved Momma leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering faith. She was cherished for her compassionate heart and gentle spirit. Loyal as a lion, she fiercely devoted herself to those she loved, embodying strength and tenderness in equal measure. She cared for everyone she met—her family, friends, and students alike- and was affectionately nicknamed Grandma Mimi by her ever-present grandchildren and GG by her great-grandchildren.
A passionate animal lover, she showed her calm and caring spirit through her deep affection for dogs, cats, and all living creatures. Motherhood came naturally to her, and she continued to nurture and love her children until the very end. Her faith and kindness changed the lives of many, and she was truly our rock in the sea of life—our guiding light through every storm. Marie loved to laugh and was known for her keen sense of humor. She was also an expert bridge player.
Even though her body was ready for heaven, she did not want to leave her four children, eleven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Everyone who met this beautiful person was better for it, touched by her kindness and grace. She will be deeply missed, but her love, faith, and the wonderful memories we share will live on forever in our hearts.
