Mary Elizabeth "Mary Lib" Myers McCachern, 65, passed from this world to the next on September 27, 2026, after a brief but fiercely fought illness.
Born on April 27, 1961, in High Point, NC, Mary was the daughter of Mary Frances Collins Myers and the late Thellis Myers. She graduated from T. Wingate Andrews High School in High Point in 1979 and attended Meredith College, where her academic excellence and creative spirit shone brightly. She graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1983 with a degree in Art and a minor in English. Mary turned her profound passion for art into a vibrant career. In her early professional life, she brought spaces to life through clothing displays, furniture arrangement, and ultimately showroom design and management at Alcoves in Charlotte. For the last 16 years, Mary's immense talent found a digital home on her blog, Home is Where the Boat Is. Through her platform, she created a welcoming community and inspired thousands of followers. Whether she was sharing the beauty of lake life, gardening tips, horticultural research, detailed DIY projects, exceptional photography, elegant tablescapes, or delicious recipes, Mary's creativity flourished in everything she touched. Her inspiration will be missed by multitudes.
In 1984, Mary married the love of her life, David McCachern. From the moment they wed, they became the absolute center of each other's universe. The couple initially moved to Charlotte and ultimately built a beautiful life together on Lake Norman, with cherished visits to Banner Elk, North Carolina. Their life together was enriched by their beloved Bichon Frise family members, Lola and Sophie, who were a central focus of her daily joy and her blog.
A devoted wife, daughter, sister, and aunt, Mary is survived by her husband, David McCachern; mother, Mary Frances Myers; her sister, Laura Thwaite; her brother, Murray Myers (Jamie); her sisters-in-law, Patti Lane and Mary Shaw (David); brother-in-law, Steven McCachern (Kendra); and many loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Thellis Myers.
The family will hold a private ceremony in Mary's memory. For those who wish to honor her legacy, donations may be made to your favorite animal assistance charity, a gesture that would deeply reflect Mary's profound love for animals.
