Maxine Joan Lewek LeMay was born on July 24, 1938, in Amsterdam, New York, and she passed away on June 15, 2024 in Huntersville, North Carolina. She was known for her wry wit and independent spirit, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Maxine dedicated herself to the field of nursing, graduating from St. Peter's Hospital College of Nursing in Albany, New York and earning a Bachelor's degree from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Her commitment to caring for others extended beyond her profession and into her personal life. Maxine took pride in her roots, being proud to hail from upstate New York and Reston, Virginia. She witnessed the growth of Reston as a long-time resident from 1966 to 2021, and loved her Virginia home. In 2021, she moved to Davidson, North Carolina. She proudly lived in a home overlooking Lake Norman where she made valued friends and enjoyed time together with them.
An avid reader, Maxine found solace and joy in the pages of books. Her intellectual curiosity knew no bounds, always seeking to expand her knowledge and understanding of the world around her.
In reflecting on Maxine's life, we remember her as a loving mother to Michele (Don) LeMay Wilber and David LeMay. She is also survived by her former daughter-in-law, Lauren LeMay; brother, David (Kathy) Lewek; niece, Emily (Ryan) Patrie; nephew, Alex (Julie) Lewek; grandchildren, Kristina (Scott) Berry, Bebe LeMay, Josh LeMay, and Nick LeMay; great-grandchildren Jacob Berry and Joanna Berry; as well as great-nephews Calvin and Henry Patrie, and a host of friends and extended family. She enjoyed a special friendship with Kay Wilber, mother of Don Wilber and grandmother of Kristina Berry.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents Max and Sophie Lewek and her former husband Michael LeMay. Despite the sorrow that comes with saying goodbye to such a remarkable individual, we find comfort in the memories we shared with Maxine.
Her wit and wisdom will be dearly missed by all who knew her. May she rest in peace knowing that she touched the lives of many and left behind a legacy of compassion and strength.
