Melvin “Bruce” Mercora, 82, a resident of Huntersville, NC, entered his heavenly home, Wednesday, July 13, 2022.

He passed away with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Fulton County, GA on July 13, 1940, to the late Domenick Anthony Mercora and Myrtle Eunice Knowles Mercora. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandparents, Myrtle K. Gorman, Ephraim Knowles, Simeone Mercora, and Anna Luango Mercora.

Bruce was a US Army Veteran having served during the Vietnam War. He studied Engineering at Georgia Tech University and worked as a supervisor at General Motors for 30 years.  He was active in his church and community serving as a Stephen Minister, a facilitator of Grief Share, president of the Wesley Sunday School Class, Transportation Chair, teacher for the Bridges Sunday School Class, and was a member of the Lawrenceville Lion’s Club where he served as treasurer for 10 years, president for 2 years, in addition to chairing various committees and fundraisers.

He was a loving and devoted husband and father and was beloved by his family and friends. He enjoyed the simple things in life such as reading, hunting, fishing, hiking, swimming, and relaxing at the beach. However, above all else he enjoyed spending time with those he loved. He had an amazing sense of humor, with a laugh and smile that would light up the room. He always sought to live life to its fullest and to share kindness with everyone he encountered. He had a deep faith in God which was evident to those who knew him. Despite many challenges in life, he always maintained a positive outlook. His humble wisdom, faithfulness, and perseverance inspired so many lives.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Vonda Lee Foster Mercora, two daughters, Adrienne Alise Mercora Cannon and Christina Renee Mercora Vieau, two sons-in-law, Rev. Dale Stephen Cannon Jr. and SSg. Jody L.Vieau, four grandchildren, Dale “Stephen” Cannon III., Lauren Elizabeth Cannon, Sgt. Jon Michael Vieau, Rct. Coda Nicolai Vieau, a beloved sister, Elizabeth Mercora Moffat, and nephews, Tony Moffat, Christopher Moffat, and Michael Moffat.

The memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2022, at the Lawrenceville First United Methodist Church with a visitation and reception immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lawrenceville First United Methodist Church or the Lawrenceville Lion’s Club.
