Molly Virginia Oldham

April 5, 1949 — August 4, 2025

Davidson

Molly Virginia Oldham, the beloved daughter of Dr. Dudley and Cornelia Oldham and sister of Gus Ronald Oldham, was born in Fort Worth, Texas and reared in Houston. She was proud of her Oldham heritage and spoke of it often. She contributed a beautifully written history of her immediate family to the Oldham Genealogy Book, which was created by cousin John Oldham.

Molly maintained close friendships with many of the people with whom she went through elementary and secondary schools, as well as friends from the University of Texas. Molly pledged Kappa Alpha Theta, along with some of those childhood friends, and she kept them close in her heart for her entire life. Molly majored in Interior Design, and her homes always bore evidence of that talent. They were filled with light, color, artifacts, and the art that she both collected and painted herself.

Molly traveled the world, visiting Nepal, Katmandu, Bali, Tibet-China, Jamaica, and Portugal, as well as other European countries. She lived for three months in Katmandu and even persuaded her rather-be-at-home mother to join her there. They had a magical time together, experiencing new and different people, places, and cultures, as they did on many of their trips.

For 15 years, Molly lived in Washington D.C. and was a successful real estate agent. In 2010, she moved to Houston to help care for her aging mother. Upon her mother’s death, Molly realized that she missed her closest family, so she made a big move, with a small parrot she doted on named Gabriel, a Sun Conure, to join that family in Davidson, North Carolina.

Her family embraced Molly with open arms, enjoying her great sense of humor, her fascinating travel stories, and her unconditional love. Her first Christmas in Davidson, she thought the chaotic family celebration, with kids and laughter and paper flying off the White Elephant gifts, was just what she was hoping for in this next chapter of her life.

In Davidson, she took DavidsonLearns classes, finding special meaning in the study of poetry, and she enjoyed the painting classes that reawakened that talent in her. She fell in love with her neighborhood and its book club and get togethers. She made new friends and yet never failed to stay in touch with her lifelong friends around the country. All who knew her were privileged to experience her loyalty, generosity, and love. One expression of that generosity was through the large coin collection she inherited from her father and brother. She delighted in passing coins along to her Davidson family and friends, with stories about their origins.

Molly was predeceased by her father, mother and brother, and she is survived by first cousins, Harriet Kessler and Marguerite Williams and their families, as well as Oldham cousins, Dudley, John, and Pat and their families in Texas, and Cobb cousins in Louisiana. All who knew Molly were struck by her joie de vivre and her desire to live life out loud. Blessed with abundant intellectual curiosity, Molly intended to seize every day and to keep learning. We are grateful to have her stories and memories of her passionate spirit, and we take comfort that she found happiness in Davidson.
