Myron R. Chartier

January 13, 1938 — January 23, 2021

Myron R. Chartier, 83, passed away into God’s love on January 23, 2021. He was born January 13, 1938 in Fort Morgan, Colorado. He grew up in Fort Morgan with his parents, Ray and Margaret Chartier, his younger brother, Vernon and younger twin sisters, Pat and Peg. Myron graduated from Fort Morgan High School in 1956. He graduated from the University of Colorado with a B.A. in 1960. He earned his B.D. from the California Baptist Theological Seminary in 1963. In 1969, he received an M.A. from Fort Hays Kansas State College in history. He earned his doctorate in Human Communications from the University of Denver in 1971.

As a boy of 12, Myron responded to a call to Christian ministry. In his senior year of college he married Janet A. Duncan from Littleton, Colorado. Myron and Jan became a life-long ministry team, working together in campus ministry in Hays, Kansas, teaching at American Baptist Seminary of the West and at Eastern Baptist (now Palmer) Theological Seminary, and serving as region staff of the American Baptist Churches of Michigan. After their first retirement, they continued in ministry on a part-time basis at Calvary Baptist Church, Denver, CO. In 2004, Myron and Jan moved to North Carolina to be close to family and settled at The Pines at Davidson, where they were involved in various leadership roles. Myron was a caring, enthusiastic lover of life, family, people, God and the church of Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his spouse, Janet A. Chartier of Davidson, his children Melody S. Chartier of Shutesbury, MA and Timothy P. Chartier of Davidson, two grandchildren, Noah and Mikayla and siblings Vernon Chartier of Beaverton, OR, Pat Tucker of Rockaway Beach, OR and Peg Flaherty of Pullman, WA.

As a memorial service cannot be held at this time, we invite his loved ones and friends to share thoughts and remembrances at https://www.kepnerfh.com/obituary/myron-chartier. Hopefully a celebration of his life will beheld at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity International or The Pines at Davidson Residents’ Fund.
