Peter Robert DeMao

June 16, 1937 — September 1, 2021

On September 1st 2021, the Lord welcomed Peter Robert DeMao into his heavenly home. Peter was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Although he left this world unexpectedly, his family and friends find comfort that he is now reunited with his recently departed wife of 62 years, Sandra Marie DeMao. Peter was a dedicated provider to his family and lifelong mentor to his children, grandchildren, and many others. He was a positive influence and led by example. Peter and his late wife, Sandra, were Catholic in their denomination of faith, most recently members of St. Therese Catholic Church in Mooresville, North Carolina.

Peter was born in Arnold, Pennsylvania on June 16, 1937 and married the love of his life, Sandra Marie Wuycheck on September 5, 1959. They had three children, Randall, Lisa, and Cynthia. The family lived in various states throughout the Midwest and Southeast, finally settling in Cornelius, North Carolina where the family has lived for the last 30 years in the Lake Norman Community.

Peter was a lifelong learner. He was an innovative and successful businessman and entrepreneur with a career spanning his entire adult life. He received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Metallurgical Engineering from University of Pittsburgh and a Masters of Business Administration from Indiana University. He held several executive positions in the coal and energy industry until he retired in North Carolina and began a second career in various other interests such as textile converting, landscape supply, custom cabinetry, and hurricane shutters. Peter was also licensed with the North Carolina Real Estate Commission.

Peter was also an avid sports fan. Though originally loyal to the Pittsburgh Steelers, he eventually pulled for the Carolina Panthers and proudly supported the team as a PSL owner since the team was formed. In addition to being a loyal sports fan, Peter was an incredible basketball player. He joined the Charlotte Mecklenburg Senior Games and proudly participated as an active player of The Senior Olympics and was known for his long shots. He traveled through the Southeast for over 20 years playing in tournaments acquiring medals and trophies.

Peter is survived by his son Randall Lee DeMao and wife Margaret; daughters Lisa Marie DeMao and husband Jack Luper, and Cynthia Lynn Sheirts and husband Lee; brothers Jeff DeMao and wife Caroline, and Dominic DeMao and wife Elsa; grand-daughters, Cassandra Marie Brooks and husband Mark, Amaria Alexandra Siedle and husband Chris, and Savannah Noelle DeMao; and great-granddaughters, Emma Grace Brooks and Annabelle Marie Brooks.
