Huntersville

Richard (Ric) John Cable, age 79, of Huntersville, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2024. He was a 1962 graduate of Bishop Moore High School (Orlando), as well as a member of the first graduating class at Florida Technological University (now UCF) earning a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 1970. Ric was also a member of the ATO fraternity.

Ric met his wife, Jane Elizabeth, of 53 years at the Orlando Youth Center. They married and reared three sons while graduating college and working full time. Ric and Jane instilled strong education principles and loving family values with their children.

Ric was a founding member of and served four years with the Honey Creek Volunteer Fire Department in Terre Haute, IN.

Ric had a successful 32-year career with DuPont in their Automotive Refinish Division. A career that took him and his family through four states and seven territory assignments. He held positions within the Refinish Sales, Commercial Fleet Sales, and OEM Sales divisions along the way. In the early days, he had the privilege to oversee the painting of several cars that ran in the Indianapolis 500, as well as the painting of three historically significant cars that are on display in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum. The most notable is the Spirit of America which broke the land speed record in 1962. His successes ultimately led him to Charlotte, NC to finish his career during the glory days of the DuPont/Nascar excitement. Ric had a passion for paint sales and cherished all the friends, co-workers, and customers he met along the way. After retiring from DuPont, he continued to share his passion for paint working at FinishMaster, and then the paint department at Lowes Home Improvement.

Ric was the proud father of three sons and an avid outdoorsman. He loved auto racing, sports, camping, fishing, and woodworking. While serving as a Boy Scout troop leader for 20 years, he helped lead high adventure trips hiking over 150 miles of the Appalachian Trail in addition to canoeing over 100 miles of the Suwannee River. During his time as a troop leader, he helped guide many Scouts to the rank of Eagle Scout, including his three sons.

Ric was preceded in death by his parents, Thelma and Elbert, and his wife, Jane.

He is survived by his brother Steve Cable (Beckie); son, Rick Cable (Stacy); son, Jamie Cable (Mary Robin); son, Jarrid Cable (Gina); grandson, Will; granddaughters, Grace, Madelyn, and Sarah.

Memorial donations may be made in his honor to The Boy Scouts of America Central Florida Council by clicking cflscouting.org.
