Richard Boyd Harwood, Sr.

Richard Boyd Harwood , 68, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his loving family on Friday, March 24, 2023, after a courageous battle with ALS. He was born in Greensboro, NC on March 3, 1955, the son of the late Boyd Harwood and Carolyn Stillwell Harwood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his faithful canine companion, Lila Fly.

Richard grew up as a member of Providence Baptist Church. In his free time away from working as a mechanic and electrician, Richard enjoyed the outdoors, golf, especially watching golf, hunting, and fishing. He loved his yearly family trips to Hilton Head, where many special memories were made. He was very handy and could fix and build almost anything. One of his favorite projects was designing and building a new porch at his home. Above all, Richard was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Richard is survived by his wife of 44 years, Katherine Boone Harwood; daughters and sons-in-law, Katherine Harwood Ortega and Jorge, Lauren Harwood Negron and Gabriel; son, Richard Boyd Harwood, Jr.; daughter, Meredith Paige Harwood; and grandchildren, Lola Marie, Efren Richard, and Hannah Marie.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Providence Baptist Church, 4921 Randolph Rd, Charlotte, NC 28211. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. prior to the service. A private family interment will take place at Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery, Virginia.
