Richard Lee Standish

Richard Lee Standish was born on May 13, 1944 in Norwich, New York and died August 24, 2025.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wanda Tefft and Glenn Standish; sister, Sandy Loomis; brother, Paul Standish; brother-in-law, Richard Ruh; and nephew, Ryan Ruh.

A memorial service will held at 12:00 pm at St. William Catholic Church, 765 Andrews Rd., Murphy NC 28906 on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. Inurnment will take place in the St. William Columbarium immediately following the service .

Dick worked at IBM for 30 years then started a second profession as a custom home builder in Murphy, NC where he built multiple homes. He loved to go camping with Judy, their grandkids, family, and friends. They traveled throughout the National Parks each summer and always took a group of their grandkids every summer (25 plus years). The memories made on these trips will be cherished by their grandchildren forever. Dick helped remodel and build multiple projects at St. William Church over many years while serving on the construction committee. While raising their boys, Dick coached football and baseball in Boca Raton FL and also helped with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Dick will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years ,Judy Van Vliet Standish; sons, Michael, Robert (Kim) ,William (Denyse), and Thomas (Angela); grandchildren, David Goodman (Brittney), Tyler Standish, Shelby Rose Standish, Ashley Barrett (Tim), Richard Shea Standish, Alyssa Standish, Sydney Standish, Alyson Standish, Jackson Standish, Peyton Standish, Sophia Grace Standish; great-granddaughter, Addison Goodman; sister, Sharon Standish Parks; brother, Glenn Standish; sister-in-law, Sandra Ruh; brothers-in-law, Philip Van Vliet (Elizabeth), and Gregory Van Vliet; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent DePaul, P.O. Box 303, Murphy NC 28906 to bless families in need.
