Sara Henson Ray

Sara Hazel (Henson) Ray, known for her career as a seamstress and her love for gardening and tending to her flowers, has passed away. She was born on April 28, 1944, in Calhoun, Alabama, and peacefully left this world on August 4, 2024, in Huntersville, North Carolina.

Sara was a beloved soul who touched the lives of many with her kind, generous heart. Her grandchildren affectionately called her "Maw" or "Grandmaw", a testament to the special bond she shared with them. She adored her family and was known for being the sweetest and most loving lady anyone could meet. Her warm personality meant she never met a stranger; everyone was welcomed by her open arms.

In her free time, Sara found joy in cultivating her garden and caring for her flowers, finding solace in the beauty of nature that surrounded her.

She is now reunited with her parents, Sam and Hazel Henson and husband, Donnie Ray. Sara is also preceded in death by her daughter Dell Ray; son Donald Ray; granddaughter, Hilary Ray; and brothers Jim Henson, Steve Henson, and Larry Henson. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for those who survive her.

Sara is survived by her daughter Tammy Taylor and husband Ricky; grandsons Daryl Taylor and Joshua Taylor; granddaughter Nicole Ray; many great-grandchildren who were dearly loved; sisters Linda Campbell and Sue Kadwell with husband John; canine companions Chip and Buddy; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Services to honor Sara's life will be held at Raymer - Kepner in Huntersville. A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, August 6, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, starting at 2:00 PM, also at Raymer-Kepner, with interment following at Mt. Zion Community Cemetery, Cornelius.

Sara Henson Ray will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the love she shared with those around her. May she rest in peace knowing she was cherished by many.
