Sarah Casey Covington

Mrs. Sarah Casey Covington, 96, of Concord, NC died Saturday March 5, 2011 at Taylor Glenn Health Care. Born October 15, 1914 in Wayne County NC she was a daughter of the late Edgar Robert Casey and Narcissa Grady Casey. She retired from Charlotte Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat as a Certified Medical Assistant and was active in the Medical Assistance Association where she held various offices. Mrs. Covington was an active member of Independence Hill Baptist Church since 1946. She established the church library in 1964, serving as director for over forty years. She served as Deacon in her 80s and held many various other positions in the church through the years. She was an active member of the Metrolina Baptist Association Senior Council for over 20 years. She was in the Lords Service through the end of her days. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Wednesday March 9, 2011 at Independence Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Todd Marlin and Dr. Robert Hamlin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:45 in the chapel of the church. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Harold G. Covington and wife Linda of Huntersville, sister, Dorothy Casey of Winston Salem, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, eight nieces, four nephews, numerous great nieces and great nephews as well as an extended family of Casey and Covington. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Dewey Covington, Sr., sons, A. Dewey Covington, Jr. and wife Barbara, Robert Earl Bob Covington and seven brothers. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Independence Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 10220 Eastfield Road Huntersville, NC 28078 or the Baptist Childrens Homes of NC, P.O. Box 338 Thomasville, NC 27361.
