Scott Harrington

October 20, 1953 — April 23, 2025

Scott Mayfield Harrington, a devoted husband, father, brother, and uncle, lost his courageous battle with gliosarcoma and passed away peacefully at his home on April 23, 2025. He was born on October 20, 1953, in Warrenton, North Carolina, to Alfred Merle and Margaret Ann (Mayfield) Harrington. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of 39 years, Wanda Duet Harrington; his daughter, Elizabeth Harrington (Erik), who was his pride and joy; and his brother, David Harrington (Lynn). He is also survived by his nephew, Benson David Harrington (Madeline), and his niece, Bess Harrington Carter (Craig).

Scott attended Hampden-Sydney College in Farmville, Virginia, where he majored in History. His love for history remained with him throughout his life, and he was always eager to share his passion. After graduation, Scott went on to Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina, where he earned his Master's in Business Administration. He then built a career in estate planning for banks, which ultimately led him to New Orleans, where he met Wanda. He eventually transitioned to asset management, spending the majority of his career there, before concluding his professional journey in commercial real estate.

Always willing to serve his community, Scott dedicated time to numerous committees and boards, including his homeowners' association, church, and town organizations. He was an avid Duke Blue Devil fan and enjoyed attending football games with his family.

Scott was a people person who never met a stranger. He loved the outdoors, spending time golfing and mountain biking, but most of all, he cherished camping and hiking with his brother David.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke, Novant Health Oncology & Radiology, Atrium Health Hospitals, Atrium Hospice Cabarrus, and BrightStar Care of North Charlotte.

A private family service will be held to honor Scott's life.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Scott in a special way may make gifts in his memory to The Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke, DUMC 3624, Durham, NC 27710, or to a charity of their choice.
