Shirley Moore Brown

April 1, 1941 — June 10, 2023

Charlotte

Shirley Moore Brown, 82, of Charlotte, NC died peacefully with her family by her side on June 10th, 2023.  She was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA on April 1st, 1941.  Shirley is survived by her son Martin Moore, son Brian Moore and daughter-in-law, Kate Moore, son Eric Moore and daughter-in-law, Kristy Misch.  Shirley was a very loving grandmother to Martin Moore, Michelle Tuite, Jessica Olson, Jordyn Moore, Zachery Moore, Eric Moore and Jake Moore along with 4 great grandchildren. Other surviving family members are her sister-in-law, Hedy Rittenmeyer, several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.  She is preceded in her death by her brothers Harold Rittenmeyer Jr., Ronald Rittenmeyer and her parents, Harold and Shirley (Hitchner) Rittenmeyer and her grandson, Michael Moore.

Shirley was a kind, loving, personable and vibrant person.  She was the type of person that everyone enjoyed being around and had lifelong friendships with so many people.  She was a truly devoted wife, mother and friend.  She was full of life and enjoyed many hobbies throughout all of the phases of her life.  In 1963 She married Martin Moore and they had three sons, Marty, Brian and Eric and lived in Shavertown and Dallas, PA. They had very special relationships with all of her sons and their friends.

Shirley didn't only share her passion and love with her friends and loved ones, but also gave back to the community throughout her life. She contributed her time to various organizations such as the Jr. League, Meal on Wheels, Boy Scouts and was instrumental in bringing Soccer to the Dallas High School and helped form the Dallas Gridiron Club. She was an active member of the Prince of Peace Episcopal Church in Dallas, PA for about 30 years. She and Martin were both very active in the community and they both enjoyed playing tennis together at the Newberry Country Club where many family memories were made.

On Father's Day 2002, Martin passed away due to cancer.  Shirley's sons, Brian and Eric were living in Charlotte.  She quickly determined that she wanted to move to Charlotte after being in Pennsylvania almost all of her life; and so she did.  It wasn't too long before she met Harry Brown, fell in love and got married. Her and Harry were perfect companions and he was welcomed into the family immediately.  They enjoyed traveling together and they made many wonderful friendships at Highland Glen.  They both were very active members of Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Cornelius, NC.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023, 11:00 AM, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Cornelius.

Shirley was a very special person and lived life to the fullest. She will be missed by many and may her beautiful soul now rest in peace.
