Stephen Horace Sutherland

Stephen Horace Sutherland, 75, passed away on November 22, 2022. He was born to the late Horace Weston and Lucille Curry Sutherland in Shelby, NC on January 27, 1947.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ellen Bolling Stephenson Sutherland; sister, Ione S. (Harold) Fite; sister, Diane S. (Bill) Brown; niece, Haley S. (Jason) Pond; nephew, Kyle (Laurie) Sutherland; niece, Milly S.(Brandon) McMillan; former sister-in-law, Paula P. Sutherland; nephew, Drew (Leslie) Fite, and nephew, Dale (Terri-Lynn) Fite; niece, Shannon B. (Bill) Moylan; niece, Wanda H.(Patrick) Thornton; niece, Dawn Hawkins; brother-in-law, Joe Hawkins, sister-in-law Aleta G. Sutherland; step-nephew, Tripp (Angela) Spangler; step-niece, Traci S. Floyd; and beloved great-nieces and great-nephews.

Along with his parents, Stephen is preceded in death by his sister, Norma S. Hawkins and brother, Thomas W. Sutherland.

Stephen was a graduate of Shelby High School in Shelby, NC in 1965 and went on to graduate from NCSU with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering in 1969.  His entire career was in the aluminum industry beginning with the electro-chemical division, then the rolling mill division, and finally in administration as the company president. Stephen was a dedicated golfer who loved collecting golf scorecards, trading cards, antique golf clubs, and memorabilia. He was a very gifted and creative infrared landscape photographer.  Stephen had many other talents and hobbies; some of which were woodworking, gardening, jigsaw puzzles, and reading.
