From Susan’s Family,

Our precious Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Aunt passed away from illness on May 11, 2023 at home with family present.  Although she was sick for a long time, she gave so much support and love to her family, and “adopted” family, who will miss her dearly.

She overcame the hardship of being a child in war torn Wales during World War II.

She married and moved to The Netherlands where her daughter was born.  She then immigrated to the United States to be near her parents and raised 2 children.  She moved to North Carolina in 2005 where she loved her home, garden and the friends she made in the cul-de-sac.

Susan had many passions in life.  She was a voracious reader and loved historical writings and novels. She never met a crossword she could not solve (a love passed down from her mother) and was a lover of games including Pokemon (she could name them all) and Zelda, which she played for hours with her grandchildren.

Susan was also an avid soccer fan with encyclopedic knowledge of the Premier League players and never failed to keep her family current on the league happenings.

Her family will greatly miss her daily Wordle updates.  Susan was the center of the Wordle family text stream and was an encouraging influence to "keep your streak" no matter how many times you Phew'd.

Susan was a dedicated supporter of animals and animal charities.  She had a long list of dog friends that proceeded her in death but were well loved and constantly remembered, Smidge, Oreo and Bear. Susan also supported wildlife funds, most recently theSheldrick Wildlife Trust supporting elephants.  Susan loved following the progress of her rescued elephants Tahri and Mzinga.  In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting the fund at Donate to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.
