Suzanne Frye Caldwell, 86, of Cornelius, NC passed peacefully in her home with loved ones by her side on January 22nd, 2022.
Being the youngest daughter of a large textile family, multiple moves across the southeast were made until finally landing in Cornelius, NC. Suzie, as known by her family and friends, graduated from North Mecklenburg High School where she built lifelong friendships, was crowned Miss North Meck, and met the love of her life. She went on to marry and raise her family in the town she loved so dearly. You could find her at the American Legion, dancing the night away with friends or even on the ballfields- “Secretary by Day, Catcher by Night”, as the Mecklenburg Gazette called her.
The working wife and mother spent years with Douglas Aircraft and Piedmont Bank, later becoming First Union, where she retired. After retirement, she was able to dedicate more of her time to the Lake Norman community by serving her church family at Mount Zion United Methodist Church in any way she could find…or create.
Suzie was a dedicated and loving wife to Clyde Caldwell, Sr. of Cornelius, NC for 67 years, a loving mother to Ginger Caldwell of Cornelius, and Pat Caldwell (wife, Susan) of Cornelius and a doting “Gran” to her three granddaughters Kristen Forehand (husband, Thomas) of Charlotte, NC, Sydney Smith (husband, Harrison) of Clayton, NC, and Ashton Held (husband, Robert) of Wendell, NC. She recently became a proud great-grandmother to four precious little ones, Lillie Smith, Leighton Smith, Hyland Held, and Beckham Smith.
She is preceded in death by her parents Leon and Nannie Sue Frye, her siblings Mary Helen Jones , Leonelle Baxter, Theda Harris, Robert Frye, Bill Frye, Rodney Frye, and Richard Frye. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and decades long friends that she loved like family.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region https://www.hpccr.org/donate or Mt. Zion UMC 19600 Zion Ave. Cornelius, NC 28031 in memory of Suzie.
