Thomas Aquinas O'Loughlin

Thomas Aquinas O’Loughlin of Huntersville NC passed away peacefully on September 14, 2026, at the age of 89.

Tom was born on June 1st, 1937, in Yonkers, NY to Francis and Mary O’Loughlin. He was predeceased by his loving wife Patricia, his first wife Palma, daughter Lisa, his son Gregory and son-in-law Steven.

Tom grew up in Yonkers, NY with 6 siblings. Francis Jr., Joe, Jack, Steve, Betty and Patricia. While attending Manhattan College he met his first wife, Palma Silvestri of the Bronx, NY and they were married in 1958. Together, they had three children, Gregory, Christopher and Lisa.

Tom was a stable, devoted, and loving father. Although he raised his children through circumstances of separation, nothing could diminish his commitment to his family. Each week, he made the drive to the Bronx to maintain a steady and loving presence in his children’s lives. On weekends he would take them to Rockland County, NY where he later moved. His unwavering support in every aspect of their lives made the circumstances of separation feel seamless.

It was in Rockland that Tom met his loving wife, Patricia. In 1980 they were married. Together they worked hard to blend their families. Thomas became a wonderful stepfather to John, Barbara and Janet, whom he loved dearly.

Together, Tom and Pat took great pride in building their vacation home in the New York Catskill Mountains. Their grandchildren lovingly nicknamed, “The Nail House”. Great memories were made there together with family and friends.

Tom was a Teamster for more than 40 years and was known for his impeccable work ethic and dedication. He also had a love for travel. Tom and Pat enjoyed journeys to Ireland, Rome and the Vatican, Medjugorje- the site of the reported apparitions of the Virgin Mary-and the Holy Land.

Tom was always busy, but when he had time to relax, he really enjoyed golf, swimming, a cup of tea and sitting with his cat, Sophie, reading.

Tom was a devout Catholic, and his faith remained a stable, substantive, enriching mainstay of his life. He served faithfully as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mark's, bringing both Holy Communion and a comforting presence to those who were homebound or in the hospital. A deeply committed Secular Franciscan, Tom made his profession on July 31, 2004, and served the St. Maximilian Kolbe Fraternity faithfully for 22 years. His active devotion to the fraternity continued through the final hours of his life. Tom was also a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 59 years. He championed his own recovery and dedicated himself to helping countless others along their own journeys. His unwavering support, compassion, and willingness to be there for others touched many lives.

Tom is survived by his middle son Chris, and stepchildren John, Barbara, Janet and son-in-law, Andrew. His grandchildren, Melissa(Anthony), Dominick, Emily (JT)and Alexa(Will). Great Grandchildren, Sophia, Joseph, Amelia and Luke. Tom was also grateful for the friendship, care and devotion of so many but especially to his niece Kathy O, and great friends, Kris, Krista and Joel. Tom will also be fondly remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Tom cherished all the memories shared at family functions and “Gathering of O’s” reunions. Tom was the last of an amazing era of O’Loughlin’s. Tom brought family together and we will keep his vision of family alive.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct 1st from 4:00pm-7:00pm at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, Huntersville, NC. The St. Maximilian Kolbe Fraternity will lead us in prayer at 4:00 pm.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Huntersville, NC at 11:00am on Friday, Oct 2nd. Burial to follow at Northlake Memorial Gardens.
