Cornelius

Vivian Louise (Westerdahl) Blashaw, 90, of Cornelius, NC passed away and was welcomed into Heaven on September 13, 2026.

Vivian, known by friends and family as Viv, was born in Jamestown, NY on January 2, 1936, to the late Lena May (Marsh) Westerdahl and Raymond Henry Westerdahl.

Vivian was an avid gardener and loved working in her yard and sharing her plants with others. She was known to break off a root section of a growing flower and send it home with a visiting relative or guest with instructions on how to successfully plant it. She also loved birds and would restock her feeders often, so birds would be frequent visitors to her yard. She lived on a corner in old Cornelius, and people would stop and tell her or anyone outside how beautiful her yard and flowerbeds were. She loved decorating with antiques inside her house and holiday decorations on the outside. EVERY holiday, starting with Valentines Day and ending with Christmas.

Vivian’s last full-time job was as an Administrative Assistant with Florence Crittenton in Charlotte, NC. In retirement, Vivian continued to stay busy by volunteering at Habitat for Humanity and Goodwill. She faithfully served at St. Marks Church for more than 30 years. Prior to that she attended St. Therese Catholic Church.

Along with her parents, Vivan was preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald Blashaw; and both brothers, Daniel and David Westerdahl. She is survived by all four of her children: son, Mark Blashaw, daughter, Debra Collazo, daughter, Donya Yost, and son, Christopher Blashaw, in addition to eight grandchildren: Joshua Hatcher, Jacob Yost, Drew Blashaw, Jessica Blashaw, Andres Collazo, Keyla Collazo, Jamieson Blashaw, Madison Baldwin, and by 5 great-grandchildren: Sophia Fusco, Sawyer Blashaw, Yasmin Blashaw, Elijah Hatcher and Nathan Marlin Hatcher.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, from 12:00 - 2:00pm at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, 16901 Old Statesville Road, Huntersville, NC. A memorial service will follow at 2:00pm in the chapel.
